BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Canada Stewart (Derry, N.H.) scored a goal and freshman goalkeeper Katherine Sears (Northboro, Mass.) made a career-high 19 saves, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team was handed a 4-1 defeat by Long Island University-LIU Post on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Hickox Field.
The Hawks fall to 5-10, while the Pioneers remain perfect at 16-0.
The game was scoreless until Carlee Dragon received a pass from Lauren Adamusik and lifted it over Sears and into the back of the net with 9:10 remaining in the opening half.
Dragon then set up goal No. 2 for the Pioneers 2:25 later when she slid a pass from the top of the circle to the left flank for Lyn-Marie Wilson, who sent a shot past Sears to double the lead.
Wilson returned the favor 3:03 into the second stanza as she fed Dragon, who drilled a shot into the lower left corner of the net to open the lead to 3-0.
Stewart put the Hawks on the board at 49:53 as she collected a rebound and pushed the ball past the right side of LIU Post goalkeeper Meredith Stocklin.
The Pioneers responded 6:23 later when Keliann Margiotta tipped Dragon's drive into the lower left corner to widen the gap to 4-1.
Stocklin stopped one shot.
LIU Post held large advantages in both shots (28-2) and penalty corners (24-2).
The Hawks resume Northeast-10 play Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. when they travel across the state to take on Franklin Pierce University.
