Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls Behind in 2-1 Loss to Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Despite a George Lamptey (Worcester, Mass.) goal in the 42nd minute, the Saint Anselm college men's soccer team gave up two goals in the final 15 minutes of the game and fell to Mercy College, 2-1, Thursday afternoon for non-conference men's soccer action.

With the loss, the Hawks will drop to 2-11 overall, while the Mavericks will bump to a 9-3-2 record for the 2013 campaign.

Saint Anselm broke the tie with 3:50 left in the first frame as senior Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Mass.) crossed a pass to Lamptey, at the far post, and he shot the ball high as it caromed around the crossbar and landed over the goal line for the 1-0 lead. Freshman Nolan Murray (Walpole, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the play.

There would be no scoring action until the 75th minutes when Juan Gatti picked up a through ball and shot the pass into the right side past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.), evening the score, 1-1.

The Mavericks then doubled up on the Hawks just over ten minutes later as Christian Diaz made it a 2-1 game with his shot that curled into the center of the net.

Kotsopoulos made six saves, while Mercy keeper Nick Papas stopped two of three shots on goal.

The Hawks took four shots in the final minutes of the game, but none of them made it to the back of the net. Overall, the Mavericks held a 20-11 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. when they play host to the College of Saint Rose for Senior Day.
