RINDGE, N.H. – Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.) had a hand in both goals, but the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon for women's soccer action across the Granite State in Rindge.
With the loss, Saint Anselm descends to 5-6-1 overall and 4-5 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Ravens will bump to a 5-5-3 record with a 4-4-2 stand in league play.
Saint Anselm jumped out to an early lead as sophomore Taylor Levy (Norton, Mass.) picked up a Millet deflected shot and sent the ball to the back of the net for the 1-0 strike just 2 minutes and 30 seconds into play.
The Hawks held the shot advantage at 8-7 in the first half, but neither team made any scoring noise for the remainder of the period.
Saint Anselm did receive a blow before the break, however, as Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) was issued a questionable red card with 19 seconds on the clock, which forced the visitors to play a man down for the final 45:19.
The Ravens took advantage of the extra body and evened the score 1-1 in the 68th minute as Hannah Weagle fired the ball into the upper right corner after picking up a loose ball following a Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) bobbled save attempt.
Saint Anselm had the answer, however, just 2:35 later as Millet picked up a goal of her own when she sent a blast from outside the box that curved into the top left corner of the net. Senior Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the goal.
With the score 2-1 in favor of the Hawks, Franklin Pierce's Gabriela Vieira found the equalizer as she picked up a pass from Madison Finlay and kicked the ball into the lower left side of the net past Primera.
Caroline Savasta netted a penalty kick for Franklin Pierce at 88:27 to break the 2-2 stalemate and lift the Ravens to victory.
In the first half, Quattropani made three saves, while Katie Weldon stopped two of four shots on goal. The Ravens held a 17-10 advantage in shots on goal, while the Hawks claimed a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. when they play host to Adelphi University at Melucci.
