Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Le Moyne Uses Second-Half Run to Top Women's Basketball, 57-48

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Raquel Johnson (Long Beach, Calif.) scored a career-high 14 points, but the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team dropped a 57-48 decision against Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

The Hawks drop to 4-13 on the season, including 1-12 in Northeast-10 play, while the Dolphins improve to 5-12, 3-10 NE-10.

Johnson was 5-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line, while tallying a career-best five steals, three assists and two rebounds.

The Hawks jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind four points from Johnson and then led 11-6 after a three-point play from freshman Kelsey McKeon (Alameda, Calif.) at the 13:03 mark. A Torie Lee 3-pointer cut the Le Moyne deficit to just a pair, but back-to-back treys from junior Mariah Wynn (Boston, Mass.) pushed the lead back to eight at 17-9 midway through the opening half.

With the lead still eight at 27-19, a jumper and a 3-pointer from junior Kierra Moore (Albany, N.Y.), sandwiched around a Raven Short jumper, widened the gap to 32-21 with 1:53 to play. Lee drained a 3 to slice it to eight and the Dolphins headed into the locker room down 34-26.

Saint Anselm kicked off the second half with a 6-0 spurt, which included four points from Johnson, and gave it the largest lead of the contest at 40-26 just 1:38 in. With their deficit still at 14 at the 13:37 mark, the Dolphins scored eight straight to climb within 44-38 midway through the half.

A Johnson layup with 7:12 to go stopped the bleeding, but it would be the Hawks' final basket of the afternoon. Le Moyne ripped off a 16-0 run that made it 54-46 with just under a minute remaining. Two Johnson free throws with 23 seconds on the clock halted the run, but the Dolphins added three more free throws to close the game on a 27-4 run and win by their largest margin of the afternoon.

Moore added nine points, five steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds. Wynn and fellow junior Briana Jones (White Plains, N.Y.) each chipped in six points. McKeon netted a career-high five points in just five minutes of action.

Le Moyne outshot Saint Anselm, 47.8 percent (22-46) to 32.1 percent (18-56), including 46.2 percent (6-13) to 13.6 percent (3-22) from beyond the arc and 48 percent (12-25) to 14.8 percent (4-27) in the second half. The Dolphins controlled the glass by a 43-23 margin, while the Hawks held a 30-18 advantage in the paint. Saint Anselm committed just 11 turnovers and forced 24.

Lauren Price and Emily Greer each led Le Moyne with 13 points, while Lee added 12.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. when they play host to the University of New Haven at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
