Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to New Haven, 4-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Lindsay Johnson (Hooksett, N.H.) scored a goal with 23 seconds remaining in the game, but that would not be enough as the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to the University of New Haven Saturday afternoon in its home and conference opener at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks drop to a 1-2 overall record, including 0-1 in Northeast-10 play, with the Chargers improving to a flawless 4-0, 1-0 NE-10.

New Haven struck first eight minutes into the game after Lucy Franciso sent a corner kick into the reach of Monica Yanez, who headed the ball into the back of the net from the left post, posting a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers would then score again in the 21st minute of play after Marisa Garcia dribbled down the left side of the field, drawing out Saint Anselm goalkeeper Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.), and then tapped the ball over to teammate Ashley Dawson, who effortlessly walked the ball into the net, pushing the lead to two.

Heightening the Charger lead to three was Heather Timmons who netted a goal on another feed from Garcia.

Yanez would then score her second goal of the afternoon on a long breakaway after she beat a diving Primera to bring New Haven's lead to four.

With just 23 seconds left on the clock, Jenna Szostak (Carver, Mass.) sent a long pass down the field to Johnson, who beat two New Haven defenders and then sent the ball sailing into the back of the net past Charger keeper Moriah Saidel.

Primera made two saves in the effort, while Saidel made 12.

The Hawks outshot the Chargers by a 12-shot margin, 21-9.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 12 in a 3:30 p.m. tilt as they travel to Bentley University.
