ALBANY, N.Y. – Seeing goals from Sean Smith (Hampstead, N.H.) and Chad Dakin (Wilbraham, Mass.) the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over the College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
The Hawks now improve to a 3-3-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0-0 record in NE-10 play, while the Golden Knights fall to 0-7-0 and 0-4-0 in league play.
Saint Anselm was first to score late in the first half at 41:42 when Smith pounced on a loose ball in the lower left side of the box and netted his third goal of the season, claiming a 1-0 Hawk lead.
Saint Anselm would then increase its lead to two in the 70th minute when Dakin gathered up the rebound from a Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Mass.) saved shot and beat Saint Rose goalkeeper James Taber.
The Golden Knights scored their first goal of the game at 72:39 when Massimo Smiroldo blasted a free kick through the box and into the left side of the net.
Saint Anselm goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) made one save to earn the win, while Taber made six saves.
The Hawks outshot the Golden Knights 15-6, including 11-3 in the second frame.
Saint Anselm took a total of five corner kicks on the day, while Saint Rose only took one.
