Field Hockey Edged at Assumption, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Caitlin Morse (Westminster, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team wound up on the wrong side of a 2-1 game against Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Hawks drop to 1-4 on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-4.

Assumption drew first blood midway through the 13th minute when Maria Beatrice received a feed from Paige Anderson and beat senior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) to make it 1-0.

The game stayed that way into the second half when Kiley Colucci added an unassisted tally that made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.

Saint Anselm answered 3:03 later when Morse collected a rebound and found the back of the cage to slice the deficit in half with her first career points.

Sullivan made eight saves, while Assumption goalkeeper Lauren Neilan stopped three shots.

Assumption outshot Saint Anselm, 12-9, including 5-0 in the opening half. The Hawks held an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners, including 11-3 in the second stanza.

The Hawks return to action Friday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. when they travel to take on Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference matchup. The next home game for the Hawks is Sunday, Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m. when they play host to Bellarmine University at Grappone Stadium.
