Men's Soccer Blanked by Saint Thomas Aquinas, 3-0

MANCHESTER, N. H. – Saint Thomas Aquinas' Daniel Davren scored a pair of goals to lead his team to a 3-0 victory against the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team Saturday night under the lights at Grappone Stadium.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-2-0 on the young season, while the Spartans improve to 1-0-1.

The Spartans jumped on the board in the 33rd minute of play when Davren broke free from the pack and lobbed a pass from Brendan Flynn over the head of Saint Anselm goalkeeper Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Saint Thomas Aquinas would then heighten its lead to two as Flynn, handing out his second assist of the night, looped the ball into the left side of the box, finding Sean Reilly, who fired the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Ten minutes later, the Spartans struck again when Davren was handed a long ball down the left side from Sean Devito, earning his second goal of the contest as he beat Kotsopoulos to his right.

Kotsopoulos made six saves in the effort, while Saint Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper, Andrew Tartara, only needed to make two in the shutout.

The Hawks lost despite outshooting their opponent for the second straight night, as they held a 17-11 advantage over the Spartans.

The Hawks return to action Sunday, Sept. 9 as they play host to Mercy College in a 3 p.m. match on Melucci Field.
