Healy, Bats Lead Baseball to 14-0 Win at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior John Healy (Cranston, R.I.) twirled seven shutout innings and five different Hawks drove in two runs as the Saint Anselm College baseball team posted a 14-0 victory against Saint Michael's College on Tuesday afternoon at Doc Jacobs Field.

The Hawks improve to 11-14-1 on the season, including 3-1-1 in Northeast-10 Northeast Division play, while the Purple Knights fall to 4-14, 0-5 NE-10 NE.

Deadlocked in a scoreless tie, the Hawks erupted for six runs in the fourth. After Junior Richie Manzi (Plymouth, N.H.) singled to lead off the inning and scored when freshman Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.) reached on an error, sophomore Dan Lagasse (Londonderry, N.H.) doubled to drive in junior Robert Kelly (Aurora, Colo.), who walked, and Hayden to make it 3-0.

Lagasse came around to score when freshman Joe Morin (Salem, N.H.) grounded out to short for the second out of the inning. Junior Andrew Chandler (Westford, Mass.) singled to drive in sophomore Mike DeSimone (Southwick, Mass.), who also reached on a single, to make it 5-0. Chandler then stole second and moved to third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

The Hawks added to their lead in the fifth on RBI singles by DeSimone and Morin that made it 8-0.

Saint Anselm blew it open in the sixth. After Manzi singled with one out, Kelly drove a two-run homer to right-center that made it 10-0. DeSimone knocked in Hayden, who singled, with a single and then took two bases on an error by the right fielder. Sophomore Nate Gonya (Wolfeboro, N.H.), who reached on a single, also came around to score on the play.

The Hawks tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh when Gonya came through with a one-out, bases loaded single that scored two.

Healy (4-1), who lowered his ERA to 0.77 through 47 innings, allowed four hits over his seven shutout innings, while striking out nine and walking one. Senior Joe Latino (Holden, Mass.) tossed a scoreless eighth, walking one and striking out one. Sophomore Matt Lessard (Hooksett, N.H.) worked a perfect ninth, striking out a batter.

DeSimone went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Gonya, Chandler and Manzi were all 2-for-4. Gonya drove in a pair and scored two runs, Chandler had an RBI and scored a run and Manzi scored twice. Senior Jeffrey Criscuolo (Durham, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with a run, while Lagasse was 1-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Kelly went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
