Baseball Handed 9-1 Loss by Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Austin Ziskie tossed a complete game and gave up one run as Saint Michael's College posted a 9-1 victory against the Saint Anselm College baseball team Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The Hawks drop to 15-17-1 on the season, including 3-2-1 in Northeast-10 Northeast Division play, while the Purple Knights improve to 7-16, 1-5 NE-10 NE.

Saint Anselm grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when junior Richie Manzi (Plymouth, N.H.) grounded out to short to plate classmate Andrew Chandler (Westford, Mass.), who reached on an error.

The Purple Knights responded by hanging a six-spot in the fourth. Collin Fishman drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game before Bryan Geary's RBI single through the left side gave Saint Michael's a 2-1 lead. Chadwick Estey opened the lead to 4-1 with a two-run single, while Tyler Wild's triple to right-center plated two more to make it 6-1.

Wild made it 7-1 with a sacrifice fly to right in the sixth and tacked another run on with an RBI single to center in the eighth. Corey Livingston drove in a run later in the inning with a sac fly to left to make it 9-1.

Ziskie gave up one run – none earned – on four hits, while striking out three and walking two over nine innings.

Senior Timothy Cooney (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) started and went the first 3.2 innings, relinquishing six runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out two. Junior William O'Connor (Worcester, Mass.) worked 1.1 innings and gave up one run on two hits and a pair of walks. Freshman David Kent (N. Falmouth, Mass.) tossed three innings, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk. Sophomore Matt Lessard (Hooksett, N.H.) pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit and a walk.

Freshman Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.) went 2-for-4, while senior Jeffrey Criscuolo (Durham, Conn.) and sophomore Dan Lagasse (Londonderry, N.H.) were 1-for-3.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 14 when they play host to the University of Massachusetts Lowell in doubleheader action beginning at noon at Sullivan Park.
