SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - After playing the Skyhawks of Stonehill College to a 1-1 draw last evening, the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team clinched the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season title and has earned top seeding in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament, the conference office announced late last night. The Hawks, the No. 1 ranked team in the conference, are scheduled to host the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College this Saturday, Feb. 25 in a 7:00 p.m. tilt at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena.
Immediately following the first day of Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Open Tournament action at Sullivan Arena, the men's ice hockey team will host No. 4 Saint Michael's College in a 7:00 p.m. game. Tickets will be sold at the door upon entry to the facility, with prices set at $5.00 for adult tickets, $3.00 for youths and seniors and $1.00 for all students attending a Northeast-10 Conference institution (with valid school identification presented).
Game-day programs provided by the Northeast-10 Conference Strategic Communications office will also be sold for $1.00, with all proceeds benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of NCAA Division II athletics. Live Statistics (http://livestats.prestosports.com/saintanselm) and Pack Network Live Video broadcasts (http://www.saintanselmhawks.tv) are also available for purchase for Saturday evening's contest.
With the Hawks as the No. 1 seed and the Purple Knights checking in with the fourth slot in the four-team NE-10 post-season, the Ice Dogs of Assumption College rank second overall with the Skyhawks of Stonehill College earning the third-place seeding entering the playoffs. With Saint Anselm playing at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Ice Dogs and Skyhawks will do battle earlier in the afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Buffone Arena.
The championship game will be played on Saturday, March 3, pitting the winner of the Assumption/Stonehill game against the victor in the Saint Anselm/Saint Michael's contest.
With eight points in the Northeast-10 Conference standings by way of a 3-0-2 conference record, the Hawks have captured their 10th regular season championship in 13 years. Saint Anselm will enter the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament looking to capture their third NE-10 title in as many seasons and their fourth title under Head Coach Ed Seney.
Saint Anselm concluded their regular season with a 12-8-5 overall record alongside conference records of 7-8-3 within ECAC Men's East play and a 3-0-2 mark against NE-10 Conference foes. Against NE-10 foes, the Hawks allowed only 10 goals in five games all season in contrast to 28 goals scored, the best goals-for to goals-allowed ratio amongst the six-team field.
Amongst Northeast-10 Conference skaters, the Hawks boast seven players with 21 points or higher. Additionally, junior forward Tim King (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshmen Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.) and Sean Jenkins (Boston, Mass.) each rank within the top-five in the conference in scoring.
