EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.) scored 12 points, but the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team dropped a 64-62 heartbreaker against Stonehill College on Tuesday evening in its season finale at Merkert Gymnasium.

The Hawks wrap up their season at 12-14, including 10-12 in Northeast-10 play, while the Skyhawks improve to 18-8, 15-7 NE-10.

Harris was 5-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the stripe, while recording three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Senior Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) netted 11 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor and 1 of 1 shooting at the line, while he filled out the rest of his line with six rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. Freshman Andre King (Springfield, Mass.) was also in double figures with 10 points on 3 of 6 shooting from the field, including 2 of 3 from deep, and 2 of 2 at the line.

Stonehill led by three, 62-59, when freshman Roy Mabrey (Belmar, N.J.) buried a 3 with 7.6 seconds left and the game was tied at 62. Stonehill inbounded the ball and pushed it down the court, getting it to Brian Hamor, who got the roll on a jumper from the foul line with 0.2 seconds on the clock and the Skyhawks snatched the 64-62 victory from Saint Anselm.

Mabrey finished with nine points, three boards and two assists.

After Keough started the contest with a three-point play, junior James Morse (Arundel, Maine) and sophomore Dino Mallios (Winthrop, Mass.) followed with baskets and the Hawks led it 7-1 nearly five minutes in.

Following an Andre Tongo layup, consecutive hoops from Keough opened the Saint Anselm lead to 11-3 with just under 12 minutes to play in the opening half. Stonehill scored six straight to trim their deficit to just a pair, but the Hawks answered with an 8-2 run – capped with 3-pointers by sophomore John Nielsen (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and King – that stretched their lead to 19-11 with 8:27 left.

Stonehill had cut the lead to seven when a pair of free throws by Harris and a Mallios layup made it 25-14 with 6:13 on the clock. The Skyhawks responded with a 9-0 run that brought them within two with 3:00 left.

The Saint Anselm lead was still two nearly a minute later when Mabrey knocked down a 3-pointer that made it 30-25 with 2:05 remaining. The Hawks would take a 33-28 lead into the locker room.

Hamor kicked off the second-half scoring with consecutive baskets that sliced the Saint Anselm lead to a single point, but the Hawks answered with an 11-2 run, which included six points from Harris, that opened their lead to 43-34 with 15:27 remaining.

Stonehill responded by going on an 11-4 run – with five points from Hamor – that trimmed the Saint Anselm lead to three at 48-45 midway through the second half. The Hawks still led by three a minute and a half later when Mallios dropped in a layup that nudged the lead to 55-50 with 7:25 on the clock.

Hamor and Raheem May-Thompson answered with baskets that sliced the Stonehill deficit to just one at 55-54 with 6:08 to go. After a Harris layup pushed it back to three, May-Thompson made back-to-back shots that gave Stonehill its first lead of the night at 58-57 with 4:42 left. A Hamor jumper then extended the Skyhawks lead to three at 60-57 with 2:43 to go. The teams then traded points, setting up the dramatic final seconds.

Mallios tallied eight points, three assists, three steals, a rebound and a block.

Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm, 47.4 percent (27-57) to 43.4 percent (23-53), including 64 percent (16-25) to 40.6 percent (13-32) in the second half. Stonehill held a 35-27 advantage on the glass and a 32-28 edge in the paint.

Hamor and May-Thompson led the way for Stonehill with 17 apiece.

This marked the final career games for seniors Keough, Hakeem Williams (Spring Valley, N.Y.) and Ben Hartnett (Auburn, Maine).
