GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Canada Stewart (Derry, N.H) scored a goal with 51 seconds remaining in the game to power the Saint Anselm College field hockey team past Adelphi University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Hawks now stand at 5-8 and improve to 3-3 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Panthers drop to 4-9 overall and stand at 3-2 in league play.
After 69 minutes of no scoring, Saint Anselm broke through at 69:09 when Meagan Halligan (No. Branford, Conn.) sent a pass towards Stewart, who chipped in a one-timer on the left side, lifting the Hawks to a 1-0 victory.
With the assist, Halligan registered her first career point.
Saint Anselm goalkeeper Shauna Whittemore (Bennington, N.H.) made four saves and improves to 3-1, while Kristine Puzio stopped one shot.
Adelphi held a 17-4 advantage in shots, taking eleven in the first half. Adelphi also held an 11-4 edge in penalty corners.
