NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern Connecticut State University Friday evening at Pelz Gymnasium with set scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-22.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the Northeast-10 conference, while the Owls improve to 20-8 and 8-4 in league play.
Saint Anselm had their best chance in third set, when the game was tied at 19-19, before the Chargers went on a 6-3 run, despite a Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) service ace and a Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.) kill, to close out the set 25-22.
Steinwart led the Hawks with 17 assists, six kills and six digs. Ouellet posted five kills alongside three other Hawks, including Lauren Oxley (Gainesville, Va.), Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) and Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.).
Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added nine digs to her credit, while Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) tallied eight.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 30 as play host to Franklin Pierce in a 7:30 p.m. tilt in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
