Men's Soccer Plays to 3-3 Stalemate with New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team battled to a 3-3 double-overtime tie with the University of New Haven Friday afternoon at Kayo Field.

The Hawks finish the 2012 campaign at 5-10-2 overall and 5-7-1 in Northeast-10 conference play, while the Chargers stand at 6-9-3 overall and 3-8-2 in league play.  

Saint Anselm jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of Maximillian Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.) goals. Glebocki struck first on a penalty kick following a hand-ball in the box. Glebocki then scored his second of the game at 8:34 when George Lamptey (Worcester, Mass.) sent a through ball to Glebocki, who chipped the ball over the head of the New Haven goalkeeper.

New Haven answered back at 10:59 when Clancy Purcell sent a corner kick into the box that was headed by Oskar Sewerin over to Daniel Dragicevich. Dragicevich would then send the ball into the net past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.).

At the close of the first half, Saint Anselm pushed their lead to two when Zach Wheeler (Derry, N.H.) sent a feed to Bruno Dasilva (Rockland, Mass.), who gave the ball two touches and then fired it into the back of the net.  

New Haven scored two goals in the second half seeing one each from Purcell and Firmiano Ribeiro to tie the game at 3-3.

Neither team was able to score in 20 minutes of overtime, however, Saint Anselm took seven shots, while New Haven shot four on net.

Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Moriarty and combined for five saves, while New Haven's James Pyatsky and Anastasios Petridis made three total, including two in overtime.

New Haven held a 19-14 advantage in shots.     

With the loss, the lights are out for the 2012 men's soccer season.
