Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Doubled Up by So. Connecticut, 4-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, but the Saint Anselm College field hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday night under the lights at Grappone Stadium on Senior Night.

The Hawks also held their second annual "Corners for the Cure," an initiative that raises money and support for breast cancer awareness. With 10 penalty corners on the night, the Hawks raised over $4,000 that will be donated directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The team will also add the $200 check they received prior to the game from the Cawley Middle School field hockey team, which designed breast cancer T-shirts and sold them around the school and Hooksett community to raise money for "Corners for the Cure."

The Hawks drop to 6-10 on the season, including 3-5 in Northeast-10 play, while the Owls improve to 6-8, 3-4 NE-10.

The Owls jumped on the board at the 7:03 mark as Sarah Cebry set up an Allison Vilardi goal that made it 1-0.

Saint Anselm answered just 10 seconds later when Katsikis came out of a scrum and fired the ball past Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Audrey Dolloff to knot it at one.

Cebry would set up Vilardi's second goal of the game that made it 2-1 early in the 23rd minute. Then, with time expired on the first-half clock, but play continuing after a penalty corner, Vilardi potted her third of the game off a feed from Meghan Lahm that sent the Owls into the break, up 3-1.

Southern Connecticut would widen the gap to three in the 41st minute when Bailey McGinnis fed Cebry, who slapped the ball into the open right side of the cage as she was falling down.

Katsikis trimmed the Saint Anselm deficit to two in the 59th minute when she received a feed on the left from junior Elizabeth Sears (Danvers, Mass.) and found the back of the cage to make it 4-2.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) stopped two shots, while Dolloff also made two saves.

The Hawks held an 11-10 edge in shots, while corners were even at 10 apiece.

Seniors Katsikis, Sullivan, Nicole Guimond (Fairfield, Maine), Maura Hurley (Holden, Mass.) and Kathleen DeVylder (Cheshire, Conn.) were honored on the field in a pre-game ceremony.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Stonehill College under the lights at Grappone Stadium.
