Valiants Fight Past Women's Ice Hockey, 2-1

RYE, N.Y. – Forward Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) potted her 13th goal of the season to tie the game near the midpoint of the second period, but the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team posted a 2-1 loss against the Valiants of Manhattanville College Friday evening at the Playland Ice Casino.  With the loss, the Hawks fall to 12-6-0 overall on the season and to 7-5-0 within the ECAC Women's East.  The victory improves Manhattanville to 9-7-2 on the season alongside a 7-3-1 conference record.

On the power play, junior forward Mary Rose Morrison potted her sixth goal of the season on what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 15:36 of the second period.  Forwards Haleigh Hutchinson and Sonia Occhionero each picked up their fifth assists of the season on the game-winning score for the Valiants.  Manhattanville has now won five of their last six games.

With the Hawks on the power play following an Alyssa Taylor tripping penalty, forward Kelly Keane scored shorthanded only 2:12 into the first period, placing the Valiants on top by a 1-0 score early in the contest.  Forward Jessica Kehoe picked up her fourth assist on the season on Keane's tally.

Herron's 13th goal of the season came at 11:43 of the middle stanza, knotting the game temporarily at one apiece.  Defenseman Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) and forward Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) recorded their seventh and 10th assists on the season, respectively, on the game-tying tally.

Saint Anselm goaltender Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) posted her sixth loss of the season, turning aside 21-of-23 shots on goal in 58:52 of action.  Manhattanville netminder Emy Cote posted the victory, halting 18-of-19 shots on net by the Hawks offense.

The Hawks were 0-for-3 on the power play.  The Valiants were 1-for-3 with the extra skater.
