Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Bison Bested By Women's Ice Hockey, 4-1

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Forward Michelle Lacombe (Delafield, Wisc.) recorded the game-winning goal and an assist as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over the Bison of Nichols College Saturday evening at Levy Rink.  With the victory, the Hawks improve to 13-6-0 overall on the season and to 8-5-0 within the ECAC Women's East.  The loss drops the Bison to 6-12-1 on the year alongside a 3-8-1 conference record.

Lacombe's unassisted goal at 5:07 of the second period proved to be the game-winning strike in this evening's game.  For Lacombe, the goal was her second of the season and the 17th of her Saint Anselm career.  This season, each of Lacombe's tallies have been game-winners as she posted the first goal in a 5-0 blanking of the University of Massachusetts at Boston on Jan. 14.

Defenseman Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) posted her third goal of the season at 8:14 of the first period, lifting Saint Anselm to a 1-0 lead near the midpoint of the first stanza.  Forward Aly Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) picked up the first of her two assists on the evening with Zevnik's strike.

Defenseman Molly Corl (Georgetown, Mass.), making her 100th appearance in a Saint Anselm sweater, scored her fourth goal of the season to stake Saint Anselm to a 3-0 lead.  Alongside Zappen, forward Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Calif.) assisted Corl's strike, giving her 15 points (5-10=15) in her last 13 games.

Forward Tiffany Herron (Clinton Township, Mich.) recorded her second goal in as many nights at 2:59 of the third period as the Hawks scored four unanswered goals to open the game.  Herron's 14th goal of the season was assisted by Lacombe and Zevnik.

The Bison did strike late in the third period, as forward Alyssa Bufis scored her third goal of the season to place Nichols on the board.  Sophomore Megan Gerein collected the lone assist on the goal, her seventh helper of the season.

Hawks goaltender Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) reached double-digit win totals for the second-straight season, earning her 10th victory by turning aside 14-of-15 shots on goal.  Nichols netminder Rebecca Cohen dropped to 1-3-0 on the season, allowing three goals on 22 shots.  Tori Gianformaggio played the third period in net for the Bison, halting 13-of-14 shots on goal for Nichols.

Saint Anselm was 1-for-3 on the power play.  Nichols was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
