MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite a late power play goal by forward Tim King (Weymouth, Mass.), the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team fell to the Beavers of Babson College by a 4-1 final score Friday evening at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena. With the victory, the Beavers improve their overall record to 5-11-0 as well as their ECAC Men's East conference record to 5-4-0. The Hawks drop to 6-4-0 overall and to 3-4-2 in conference play.
Forward Connor Berto's first goal of the season placed the Beavers up by a 2-0 margin near the midpoint of the second period, scoring what would eventually become the game-winning goal for Babson. Forward Cody Carlson picked up the assist on the winning strike.
Forward Mike Driscoll scored on the power play at 5:17 of the second period, opening the scoring for Babson. Sophomore defenseman Ryan Heavey and senior forward Mike Hoban took advantage of the Hawks penalty kill and scored two short-handed goals following a five minute major penalty issued to junior forward Trevor Hines at 7:31 of the third period, placing the Hawks behind by a 4-0 margin late in regulation time.
For the Hawks, King scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 12:24 of the third period, capitalizing on the Hines' cross-checking penalty following a time-out. Forward Tyler Savage (Johns Creek, Ga.) and Eric Czapka (Holland, Pa.) collected assists on King's power play goal.
Hawks goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.) drew the loss, falling to 3-4-2 on the season following an 18 save performance and allowing four goals. Beavers goaltender Andrew Peabody (3-3-0) evened his record, collecting his third victory of the season by turning aside 33-of-34 shots on goal.
Saint Anselm was 1-for-4 on the power play. Babson was 1-for-5 on the power play.
NOTABLES: The Hawks fall to 17-35-4 all-time against the Beavers of Babson College with tonight's defeat…Saint Anselm is currently on a 12-game winless streak against the Beavers…The last Hawks victory over Babson College was Feb. 5, 2000 at Babson…Tonight's defeat marks the first regulation loss dating back to Nov. 19, 2011 against nationally-ranked Norwich University…Forward Tim King recorded the 25th goal of his Saint Anselm career this evening.
