Field Hockey Shuts Down Assumption, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three different Hawks scored goals as the Saint Anselm College field hockey team scored a 3-0 victory against Assumption College on Friday evening at Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Hawks record their seventh victory against the Greyhounds in the last nine meetings to improve to 3-7 on the season, including 1-3 in Northeast-10 play. Assumption, which also suffered a 3-0 defeat against Saint Anselm back on Sept. 14 at Grappone Stadium, drops to 1-9, 1-5.

The Hawks jumped on the board 8:20 into the contest when junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.), who tallied five points in the first meeting between these two teams, scored her 10th goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Saint Anselm expanded its lead in the 23rd minute when Katsikis picked up her third point of the night as she assisted on the second goal of the season for senior Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.).

The teams went into the break that way and it remained 2-0 until the 53rd minute when sophomore Nicole Foley (Falmouth, Maine) registered her first goal of 2011 and just the second of her career off a feed from classmate Elizabeth Sears (Danvers, Mass.).

Junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.), who played the first half, earned her third win of the year as she stopped two shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Snow (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made one save in the second half of action. Assumption goalkeeper Heather Philbrick made eight saves.

The Hawks held a 19-8 advantage in shots, including 11-4 in the second frame.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. when they take on intrastate rival Franklin Pierce.
