MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team opened their season Saturday afternoon against Felician College, falling to the Golden Falcons by a 1-0 final score at Melucci Field. With the victory, the Golden Falcons improve to 1-0 overall on the season while the Hawks drop to 0-1 overall.
Despite Saint Anselm outshooting Felician 4-0 within the first ten minutes of the contest, Felician opened the scoring at 18:37 as Stephanie Jimenez of the Golden Falcons scored an unassisted goal which proved to the lone tally of the game for both sides. Saint Anselm would go on to outshoot the Golden Falcons 25-to-7 in the contest but could not bury any of their chances.
Hawks goaltender Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) made her collegiate debut for Saint Anselm, stopping five-of-six shots on goal. Allie Couzo turned aside all nine shots on net for her first victory and shutout of the season.
Saint Anselm returns to action this Friday, Sep. 9 at Melucci Field as they take on conference-rival American International College at 4:00 p.m. The Hawks then hit the road as they travel to Assumption College Sunday, Sep. 11 for a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
