Volleyball Swept By Falcons

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College volleyball team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University by a 3-0 score Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.  The Hawks fell to the Falcons in three sets (25-23, 25-14 and 25-22).  Bentley improves to 7-5 overall on the season and evens their Northeast-10 Conference record at 2-2. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 4-8 overall on the season and remain winless in conference play (0-2).

In the first set, Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) led the Hawks with four kills to her credit.  Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.) and Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) tied for second place on the Hawks with two kills apiece.  Defensively, Steinwart also contributed five digs and her service ace spurred a
six point run in which the Hawks came from behind to take an 11-7 lead in the set.

Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) posted three kills in the second set to lead all Hawks players.  Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) and Ross tied for second place with two kills apiece in the second set.  Defensively, Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) posted three digs for the second-straight set to help the Hawks defensively.

Shannon Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) came off of the bench to lead Saint Anselm with five kills in the decisive third set.  Meghan Shettle (Old Lyme, Conn.) recorded three digs and 10 total attacks against the Falcons in the third set.  Douglas and Tereschuk each posted three digs in the final set.

Cumulatively, four different players (Ross, Gustavson, McNabb and Douglas) recorded five kills for the Hawks on the evening.  Steinwart, the Hawks' primary setter, posted 22 assists in the loss.  For the Falcons, Virginia Wong posted a team-leading nine kills and Kelsey Buckner and Ashley Ahearn contributed seven kills apiece.  Alex Tator led Bentley with 31 assists to her credit.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 as they travel to UMass Lowell to take part in a 1:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference game.
