Hawks Sweep Tri-Match Against Mercy, Felician

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Saint Anselm College volleyball team collected wins against Mercy College and Felician College in a tri-match held this afternoon at host Mercy College.  The Hawks felled the Golden Falcons of Felician College 3-0 and the Mavericks of Mercy College 3-2.  After collecting two wins on the afternoon, the Hawks improve to 4-6 overall while maintaining their 0-1 Northeast-10 Conference record.

In the first game against Felician College at 2:00 p.m., the Hawks swept the Golden Falcons in three sets (25-12, 26-24, 25-9).  Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) posted 11 kills in the first game for the Hawks with Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.) placing second on the squad in kills with seven.  Ouellet recorded a team-best five kills in the decisive third set while also recording a team-best .636 hitting percentage overall.  Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) tallied a team-leading 20 assists in the three game sweep.  Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) contributed nine digs defensively in the first game, including five in the first set to power past the Golden Falcons. 

For Felician College, Jenna Metesic posted eight kills in three sets in the three-set loss.  Gabby Migliore recorded nine assists off the bench for Felician and Ashlee DiSalvo recorded 11 digs defensively on the afternoon for Felician.  Megan Delamater led the Golden Falcons with a team-leading .250 hitting percentage in three sets.

The Hawks and Mavericks played a see-saw battle through five sets, trading off victories until the decisive fifth set in which the Hawks captured the 15-6 victory.  Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Hawks with 16 kills through five sets of action, including four kills in both the second and third sets. 

Tencza posted a total of 12 kills in the second game on the afternoon, posting five kills in both the first and third sets against the Mavericks.  Tencza was also a factor defensively, tacking on a team-best 16 digs through five sets.  With 49 sets in the second game of the tri-match, Steinwart built upon her team lead in assists which now stands at 282.  Tereschuk led the Hawks with three service aces in the game.

Brenna White posted 26 kills in the rubber match of the doubleheader, leading players from both teams in that category.  White also accumulated seven kills in both the first and third sets against the Hawks.  Michala Askew contributed a team-best 14 digs and 22 assists in the final game of the tri-match.  Ericka Kane notched five service aces in the final game.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 21 as they host conference-rival Southern New Hampshire University at 7:30 p.m. in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
