Katsikis' Five Points Propel Field Hockey to 3-0 Win Against Assumption

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) doubled her season total with five points on two goals and an assist to lift the Saint Anselm College field hockey team to Wednesday afternoon's 3-0 win against Assumption College at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks scoop up their first victory of the season to improve to 1-4, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-4. Saint Anselm, which held a 17-1 advantage in shots, including 10-1 in the opening stanza, beats Assumption for the sixth time in the last eight meetings, including for the fifth straight time on the Hilltop.

With just 17 seconds remaining in the first half, the Hawks took advantage of a 2-on-1 when freshman Bridget Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) pushed the ball up the left side of the field before dishing to her right for Katsikis, who cut back around goalkeeper Heather Philbrick and fired a shot into the vacant net. The assist was Davis' team-leading third of the season.

Saint Anselm doubled its lead 14:20 into the second half when Katsikis struck again – this time unassisted. Katsikis drove the ball up the field on the right hash before hitting a rocket that snuck into the left side of the cage to make it 2-0.

The Hawks grabbed another insurance goal with 7:53 remaining when Katsikis set up sophomore Elizabeth Sears (Danvers, Mass.), who beat Philbrick for her second tally of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) did not need to make a save in the contest, while Philbrick stopped six shots. The Greyhounds, who have not scored a goal in their last 276:46 this season, are also scoreless in their last 217:13 on the Hawks' home turf, dating back to Oct. 6, 2007.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Southern Connecticut State University under the lights at Grappone Stadium.
