Baseball Hangs with Dartmouth Before Falling, 5-1

HANOVER, N.H. – Junior Timothy Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) pitched seven solid innings, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision at Division I Dartmouth College on Tuesday afternoon at Biondi Park.

The Hawks drop to 17-17 on the season, while the Big Green improve to 19-10.

Saint Anselm broke through for the game's first run in the top the third on an RBI single by senior TJ Murphy (Reading, Mass.). Dartmouth tied it on a Jeff Keller RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth and then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a David Turnbull RBI single.

Cooney went the first seven, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking two.

The Big Green then broke the game open, hanging a three spot in the eighth against freshman Zachary Brian (Stoneham, Mass.). Brian lasted 2/3 of an inning, relinquishing three runs on three hits and a walk. Sophomore William O'Connor (Worcester, Mass.) recorded the last out via strikeout.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, April 20 when they travel across town to battle Southern New Hampshire University at 3:30 p.m.
