MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat at Bentley University on Saturday, before earning a 9-0 shutout of American International College on Sunday.
The Hawks are now 2-4 overall, as well as in the Northeast-10. Bentley, which is ranked 10th in the East region, improves to 6-7, 6-1 NE-10, and AIC falls to 0-5, 0-3 NE-10.
Sophomore Alexandra Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I.) and senior Erika Sartor (Andover, Mass.) earned the only point of the day against Bentley, taking an 8-5 decision against Pauline Sotomayor and Rachael Litton in doubles action.
Lawrence earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory against AIC's Amanda McLean in the opening singles match Sunday. Sartor then took a 6-0, 6-0 decision from Jamie Roy. Junior Amanda Brahm (Marlborough, Conn.) defeated Martine Turgeon, 6-1, 6-2, while freshman Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass.) downed Edna Olwo, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Lauren DeGuglielmo (Wakefield, Mass.) earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Taila de Souza, before sophomore Rachel Pedro (Weymouth, Mass.) won her match by default.
In doubles, Sartor and sophomore Alyssa Marciniak (Cumberland, R.I.) beat McLean and Turgeon, 8-2, while Lawrence and Morrissey defeated Roy and de Souza, 8-0. Sophomore Colleen Kluberdanz (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and DeGuglielmo rounded out the day, winning their match by default.
Saint Anselm returns to action Saturday, April 2 when it takes on Adelphi at 2 p.m. The Hawks then clash with Pace on April 3 at 11 a.m.
