MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at Bentley University on Saturday, before earning an 8-1 victory of American International College on Sunday for its first win of the season.
The Hawks are now 1-5 overall, as well as in the Northeast-10. Bentley, which is ranked third in the East region, improves to 6-6, 6-0 NE-10, and AIC falls to 0-3, 0-2 NE-10.
Junior Alex Schultheis (Cranston, R.I.) opened singles play at AIC with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Jakub Simicek. Sophomore Joseph Zucchi (Methuen, Mass.) then defeated Robert Lubhold, 6-2, 6-0, before classmate William Condon (Mansfield, Mass.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Fellow sophomore Michael Hanna (Southborough, Mass.) downed Derek Alves, 6-2, 6-1 and junior Liam Concannon (Boston, Mass.) blanked Eric Stutman, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Kevin Greene (Londonderry, N.H.) won his first match, defeating Alex Touhey 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
In doubles action, Zucchi and Condon teamed up to defeat Alves and Lubhold, 8-1, while Hanna and Concannon were victorious against Jake Anderson and Touhey, 8-6.
Saint Anselm returns to action Saturday, April 2 when it takes on Adelphi at 5 p.m. The Hawks then clash with Pace on April 3 at 11 a.m.
