Men's Lacrosse Beaten by Third-Ranked Le Moyne, 14-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshmen Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) and Tom Gardner (Salem, N.H.) each scored goals, but the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 Le Moyne College, 14-2, in its Northeast-10 opener at the Turf Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks fall to 0-4 on the season, including 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins improve to 4-1, 2-0 NE-10.

Matt Chadderdon scored three of his four goals in the first two quarters to give his team a 6-0 lead. Messner found the back of the net with 3:43 remaining before halftime to make it 6-1, but Le Moyne added two more before the break, including one with a second on the clock to open up an 8-1 advantage.

The Dolphins opened the second half with three straight scores to expand their lead to 11-1. Gardner netted his goal with 4:31 to play in the third quarter, but Chadderdon scored his fourth to close the third-quarter scoring. Le Moyne added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.

Senior Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) played the first three quarters in net as he made 12 saves before giving way to classmate Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.), who recorded a pair of stops. Le Moyne goalkeepers Jeff White and Connor Smart each stopped one shot.

The Hawks were outshot by Le Moyne, 53-8, including 19-1 in the second quarter.

Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University.
