Manchester, NH (February 5) – Katie Ganser (Needham, MA) led five different Merrimack players in double figures and the Warriors swept the season series against the Hawks with a 65-53 victory at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the win Merrimack moves to 10-10 overall and 8-8 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm falls to 9-12 overall and 6-11 in the NE-10.
Megan Howard (St. Paul, MN) dominated once again for the Hawks with a game-high 18 points. She also recorded her third straight double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Epiphany Smith (Springdale, AK) was the only other Hawk in double figures with 10 points. Merrimack used a strong second half charge to come away with the win.
Ganser and Sarah Benischek (Shrub Oak, NY) each drained a pair of big three-pointers as the Warriors expanded their lead to as many 14 in the second half. It was keyed by a 13-0 run that was capped with a Ganser three that made it 45-32 with 12:42 remaining. The three-point shooting made the difference as the Merrimack heated up in the second half. The Warriors made six of their thirteen triples in the second half compared to just 2-of-10 in the first half.
