Manchester, NH (February 4) – Ten different players recorded a point and Saint Anselm scored three power play goals on six opportunities, leading to a 5-2 victory over Holy Cross in ECAC East action at Sullivan Arena Friday night. Courtney Winters (Swampscott, MA) led the way with two scores for the Hawks. Jocelyn Kratchmer (Watrous, Saskatchewan, Canada) had the only two goals for the Crusaders.
With the win, Saint Anselm improves to 16-4-0 overall and 10-3-0 in the ECAC East. Holy Cross falls to 14-7-0 overall and 11-3-0 in the ECAC East. The victory moves the Hawks to within a game of first place Holy Cross and Norwich in the race for the league title.
Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, MA) and Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, FL) also had multi-point nights for Saint Anselm. Hingston had a pair of assists, while Giarrusso notched a power play goal and assist. Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, CA) stopped 17 shots for the Hawks in the win.
Saint Anselm buzzed Crusader goaltender Monique Gallant (Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada) from the outset, keeping the puck in the attacking zone for the first 1:15 of the game. That trend would continue throughout the night as the Hawks doubled up the Crusaders in shot attempts 38-19.
The Hawks return to their home ice tomorrow afternoon for a 1:00 pm game against Salve Regina University (7-10-3 overall, 6-5-2 ECAC East).
