Manchester, NH (February 26, 2011) -The first round of the NE-10 Conference Championship is in the books. Saint Anselm prevailed 77-61 and now moves to the quarter final game against #4 Seed, Saint Rose in New York on Monday night.
Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, CT) had a game high 26 points hitting 7-14 from the floor. His performance today made it very clear why he was named NE-10 Player of the Year yesterday. With his 26 points tonight, he moves into the #3 spot in career scoring at Saint Anselm.
Allen Harris (Roslindale, MA), named NE-10 Rookie of the Year yesterday, had another stellar performance chipping in 18 points on the night. Senior John Mariano (Naugatuck, CT) also had an outstanding game contributing 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Saint Anselm went to the locker room at half time with a 2 point advantage. However, they came out of the locker room and took control of the game with an 8-0 run at the beginning of the second half and then never looked back. They led by 10 with 15 minutes on the clock, extended that lead to 19 and then secured the win by 16 points as the horn sounded. Assumption's Mike Auriemma (Manchester, CT) had 13 points coming off the bench.
Assumption finished the season 12-17 overall. The Hawks improve to 19-8 and are looking to be selected for the NCAA Tournament.
Saint Anselm will play at Saint Rose on Monday night. Game time is 7PM.
