Manchester, NH (February 23, 2011) – St. Michael's sophomore Nicole Adach (Schenectady, NY) put forth a tremendous effort with a team high 16 points to lead the Purple Knights to a 56-50 over Saint Anselm Wednesday night at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. Megan Howard (St. Paul, MN) dropped in 17 points to lead the Hawks in the losing effort.
Saint Anselm wraps up the regular season with an 11-15 overall record, finishing 8-14 in the Northeast-10. St. Michael's ends the year 15-10 overall and 13-9 in the NE-10. Both teams will play first round games in the conference tournament starting this Saturday.
The Purple Knights used their experience to close out the game, finishing off the Hawks with a 12-6 run over the final six minutes. Megan Olsen (Glenmont, NY) came through with a pair of steals on a couple of late Saint Anselm possessions which turned into transition baskets for St. Michael's.
Before the game the Hawks honored the Purple Knight seniors as well as senior teammate the senior ,Jen Gureckis (Nashua, NH). Howard and Epiphany Smith (Springdale, AR) were also recognized prior to tip-off as both players crossed the 1,000 point mark in the team's win over UMASS-Lowell this past weekend.
Saint Anselm takes the road for its first round playoff game this Saturday. After finishing as the #12 seed in the Northeast-10. They will head to New York for a first round matchup with Pace. Sunday, February 27th.
