Manchester, NH (February 16, 2011) – After ten straight wins to start the season at
Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, Saint Anselm had its run of home dominance snapped with a 67-54 loss to Stonehill Wednesday night. Mike Kernan (Medford, NJ) and Ivan Almeida (Santiago, Cape Verde) led the way with 16 and 14 points respectively. It marks the first time all season that the Hawks have lost back-to-back games, coming off an 85-67 loss at Franklin Pierce.
The win improves the Skyhawks to 20-5 overall and 15-5 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm drops to 17-7 overall and 13-7 in the NE-10. The setback also has the Hawks in danger of missing a first-round bye in the NE-10 tournament.
Stonehill's defense bothered Saint Anselm all night long. After shooting 54% in the first half, the Hawks struggled over the final twenty minutes, shooting just 22% from the field. The 54 point final matched their second worst finish of the year. Tom Baudinet (Watertown, CT) and Allen Harris (Roslindale, MA) were the only Hawks in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Saint Anselm continues its drive for a top four seed and a first-round bye in the Northeast-10 tournament this weekend against UMASS-Lowell. The Hawks hammered the Riverhawks earlier this season 89-67 behind a 40 point effort from Baudinet. For more information, log on to athletics.anselm.edu.
