Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Hawks Fall to Undefeated Norwich

Manchester, NH (February 11) – Melissa Rundlett (Saco, ME) scored one goal and assisted on another and Cindy Fortin (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) stopped 20 shots as #4 Norwich knocked off Saint Anselm 3-1 Friday evening at Sullivan Arena.  The win keeps Norwich undefeated in the ECAC East as the Cadets sweep the season series with the Hawks, after the Cadets won 3-2 in overtime earlier this season at Norwich.

Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, FL) scored the lone goal of the game for Saint Anselm College who came into tonight's game having won in 13 of their last 14 games.  Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, CA) made 24 saves in the losing effort, as she was heavily pressured for most of the game.  Norwich improves to 16-4-1 overall and 14-0-1 in the ECAC East.  Saint Anselm falls to 17-5-0 overall and 11-4-0 in the ECAC East.

The Hawks had an opportunity to get back into the game in the third period despite trailing 3-0 entering the period.  Norwich committed three penalties in the third after not having been penalized all game.  However, the Cadets managed to kill off all three power play chances, with outstanding saves by Fortin.

This evening's game was the weekend opener of Saint Anselm's "Pink in the Rink" to fundraise for the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness. During the four hockey games this weekend fundraising efforts through various events and contests will be donated to further breast cancer research.

The Hawks take on Saint Michael's tomorrow, their final home game of the season. Saint Anselm is 16-0-0 against St. Michael's all-time and defeated them 6-0 earlier this season. Game time is 1:00 PM. Prior to the game, the Hawks will honor the seniors on the team in an annual Senior Day recognition celebration.
