MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team fell to the Cadets of Norwich University by a 6-0 margin Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena. With the victory, the Cadets, the second-ranked team in Division III (according to the most recent USCHO.com Division III Women's Poll), improve to 7-1 overall and to 6-0 within the ECAC Women's East. The Hawks drop their third contest of the season, falling to 4-3 on the season and 3-3 within the conference.
Julie Fortier led the Cadets with two goals and an assist for three points (2-1=3), including what proved to be the game-winning goal at 8:53 of the first period. Mollie Fitzpatrick, Renee Lortie, Jillayne DeBus and Melissa Rundlett added goals in the contest as well.
For Saint Anselm, both Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and Jacqueline Bouchie (Belmont, Mass.) recorded four shots on net but were unable to convert those opportunities. Norwich outshot Saint Anselm by a 27-22 margin.
Hawks goaltender Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) drew her third loss of the season, stopping 21-of-27 shots on goal. Kelly Fisk improves to 4-0 on the year, halting all 22 shots on net.
NOTABLES: The Hawks have not been blanked by any opposing team dating back to Feb. 2, 2010 against Amherst...Saint Anselm's last victory over Norwich came on Nov. 7, 2008 in their season-opener, recording a 5-3 victory...The Hawks dropped their first home game on the season this afternoon.
