The Hawks and Eagles meet for just the fourth time in the history of the two programs, with Saint Anselm having won the previous three meetings. After an 80-72 win at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in the first meeting on Dec. 21, 2009, the Hawks won a 107-103 slugfest against the Eagles a week later Dec. 29 at the Bridgeport Holiday Tournament. In the most recent meeting Dec. 19 of last season, the Hawks squeaked out a 72-71 victory when Thomas Baudinet sunk his hometown team on a jumper with 4.6 seconds left.
The win gave the Hawks their third 8-1 start in the previou seven seasons.
Post jumped out to a 26-19 lead with 7:19 left in the first half before the Hawks put together a 17-4 run that was started on a basket from freshman Allen Harris and capped by a Baudinet three for a 36-30 advantage. Still a six-point game late in the half, Spencer Smith knocked down a three for the Eagles late in the half for the 40-37 score at the break.
The Eagles started the second half as they did the first with an 18-5 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 55-45 with 13:47 remaining in the game. Saint Anselm continued the game of runs though and tied the score on a basket from Harris with 6:14 left and took the lead on another Harris hoop less than a minute later.
Saint Anselm held the lead for nearly the next six minutes and led 70-68 with 32 seconds left following a free throw from junior Jack Keough. Post wasn't done though and after Keough miss at the line, Cecil Stinson hit his second three-pointer of the game for the 71-70 lead with 16 seconds left, setting the stage for Baudinet's late-game heroics.
Both Baudinet and Harris finished with 25 points, along with a 12-rebound effort from Keough.
Four Eagles finished in double figures in the loss, led by a 19-point effort from Smith. Post University dropped to 5-5 overall with the defeat.

Harris and Nielsen baskets stopped the bleeding and cut it to 10 at 43-33 with 7:55 on the clock. The Hawks still trailed by 10, 45-35, with 4:31 left when layups by Morse and Mabrey, followed by senior Jack Keough hitting 1 of 2 at the line, made it 45-40 with 2:26 to play.
