EASTON, Mass. – Junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) scored two goals, but it was not enough as the Saint Anselm College field hockey team was edged, 3-2, in overtime by Stonehill College on Tuesday evening at W.B. Mason Stadium.
The Hawks drop to 5-10 on the season, including 3-6 in Northeast-10 play, while the Skyhawks improve to 8-8, 3-5.
Katsikis put the Hawks on the board in the 19th minute as she knocked in her own rebound at the left post to make it 1-0.
Stonehill tied it up just 2:57 later when Lauren Colligan's one-time drive off a rebound beat junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) to even things at one apiece.
In the 31st minute, Katsikis earned her second consecutive four-point performance and staked the Hawks to a 2-1 lead when she tipped in a drive off the stick of freshman Bridget Davis (Mansfield, Mass.) from five yards out.
Saint Anselm looked to be in control until the 65th minute when Kelsey Davis found the back of the cage as she teed up a rebound opportunity inside the left post to knot the match at two.
Stonehill carried its momentum into overtime as Chelsea Fizell knocked in a loose ball 9:08 into the extra session to lift the Skyhawks to victory.
Sullivan made six saves, while Stonehill goalkeeper Elizabeth Genovese stopped three shots.
Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm, 25-7, including 6-0 in the overtime period.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. when they wrap up conference play by hosting Bentley University on Senior Day at Grappone Stadium. It is also the third and final game of the team's breast cancer initiative, "Corners for the Cure."
