NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass.) set a career high with four points and classmate Nicole Guimond (Fairfield, Maine) set career bests with two goals and four points as the Saint Anselm College field hockey team erupted for a 4-1 win against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.
The Hawks, who were also 2-1 winners at home against Southern Connecticut on Sept. 17, improve to 5-9 on the season, including 3-5 in Northeast-10 play, after scoring a season-high four goals. The Owls fall to 4-11, 1-6.
Saint Anselm jumped on the board just 5:02 into the game when senior Stephanie Chaisson (Methuen, Mass.) received a feed from Katsikis and found the back of the cage to make it 1-0.
Southern Connecticut quickly answered just 33 seconds later when Randi Schock converted her penalty stroke to knot the game at one.
In the 16th minute, Guimond received a pass from Katsikis and beat Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Robin Donaldson to give her team the 2-1 lead.
The teams went into the break that way and the game stayed 2-1 until Guimond struck again early in the 61st minute when she collected another feed from Katsikis and found the back of the net.
Senior Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.) gave the Hawks even more insurance in the 68th minute with her third goal of the season after Katsikis handed out her fourth assist of the afternoon.
Katsikis ranks third in the conference in assists (9), fourth in points (31) and sixth in goals (11).
Junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) made five saves, while Donaldson stopped two shots.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. when they head south to take on Stonehill College.
