Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Felled by American Int'l, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Elizabeth Sears (Danvers, Mass.) scored to tie the game in the 60th minute, but a late goal lifted American International College over the Saint Anselm College field hockey team, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks drop to 4-9, including 2-5 in Northeast-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 9-5, 4-2.

AIC struck just 9:16 into the contest when Jessica Hall found the back of the cage when she pushed the ball off the pad of junior goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) and over the goal line to make it 1-0.

The game stayed that way until the 59:37 mark when Sears rifled a shot from the right side of the arc that beat AIC goalkeeper Kim Steiner into the top right corner of the net to tie the game at one.

The Yellow Jackets answered right back just 1:54 later when Jenna Masionis scooped up her own rebound and beat Sullivan to make it 2-1 with just 8:29 on the clock.

Shots were even at 11 apiece. Sullivan made three saves, while Steiner stopped six shots.

The Hawks earned seven penalty corners and now have 19 through the first two games of their breast cancer initiative, "Corners for the Cure," which raises money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation with each corner earned in the three October home games.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. when they travel to take on Southern Connecticut State University.
