Buffalo, Minnesota (January 8) -- In the second and final game in Minnesota, the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team defeated the College of Saint Benedict in a 4-1 contest. Sophomore Ciara Petry (Poolsville, Md.) scored twice, collecting her first and second career goals.
Petry's goals both came in the final five minutes of the opening period. The first came with 4:55 remaining, on passes from Molly Corl (Georgetown, Mass.) and Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.). Her second goal, which proved to be the game winner, came two minutes later and was unassisted.
Kaley Flynn (West Saint Paul, Mn.) scored at the 15:38 mark in the second period on a power play to cut the Hawks lead in half. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored her team high eighth goal 11 minutes later to bring the Hawks lead back to 2 goals. Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) capped the Hawks scoring on a power play with less than three minutes remaining in the game to give Saint Anselm their ninth win of the season.
Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was forced to make just eight saves in the contest.
Saint Anselm returns to Sullivan Arena this Tuesday to take on Bowdoin College at 4:00 pm.
