Hawks Skate to 2-2 Tie against #6 Williams

Williamstown, Massachusetts (January 21) – The Hawks skated to a 2-2 tie against sixth nationally ranked Williams College.  Mike Richards(Londonderry, NH) scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Hawks on the board first, 10:02 into the first period, on an assist from  Eric Czapka (Holland,PA) and Coleman Noonan  (Norfolk, MA). The Hawks battled the remainder of the period and headed into the lockeroom with a 1-0 lead and momentum.

Williams came out flying in the second period and Saint Anselm rookie netminder Robert Kang (Glen Rock, N.J.) rose to the challenge stonewalling his opponent's chances.  Kang thwarted 16 out of 17 shots in the period.  The lone goal of the second period came at 16:53 from Williams College's Matt Masucci (Winthrop, MA) as he banged home a rebounded shot from Ryan Young (Medford, MA) and Connor Olvany (Willmete, IL). The two teams skated to a deadlock for the remainder of the period and headed into the final intermission knotted up at 1-1.

The third period was loaded with opportunities for the Hawks. The puck never found the back of the net until the 7:13 mark when John Hyslip (Andover, Mass.) picked off a pass on the left side of the neutral zone and found a streaking Nick Wheeler (Nashua,NH) who dove and was able to push the puck past the Williams netminder to lift the Hawks 2-1.  The game remained intense with momentum swinging back and forth.  Saint Anselm called a timeout with 3:31 remaining in regulation. With less than two and a half minutes remaining Williams's Connor Olvany was able to tuck away a loose puck that was deflected off of teammate in front of the net effectively tying the game with 2:40 remaining .

During the five minute overtime both teams battled hard with Williams getting five shots on net and the Hawks none.  As the horn sounded to signify the end of the game freshman goaltender Robert Kang stopped 42 shots for the Hawks while Ryan Purdy made 29 saves in goal for Williams College.

The Hawks, who are 6-5-1 overall, will be on the road again tomorrow to take on Middlebury College in a NESCAC/ECAC East cross over game. The start time for the game is scheduled for 4:00 pm
