Plymouth, N.H. (January 15) -- After an 8-0 win last night, the Saint Anselm Hawks women's ice hockey team defeated the Panthers of Plymouth State University 4-0 to extend their win streak to 8 games. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored a hat trick in the game.
Giarrusso got the Hawks on the board first midway through the first period on passes from Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) and Sami Tatu (Greeley, Colo.). She then scored her second goal with just 85 seconds remaining in the first third of the game. The Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Freshman Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) scored her first goal in a Hawk uniform after 7:36 had gone in the second period. Despite Foss's goal being the only one of the second period, the Hawks outshot the Panthers 23-1 in the period, and Saint Anselm took the 3-0 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes of play.
Not five minutes into the last period of play, Giarrusso scored completed the hat trick on a short-handed goal to seal the 4-0 win for the Hawks.
The Hawks outshot the Panthers 53-7 in the victory.
The win improves the Hawks record to 12-3 overall and 6-3 in the ECAC East.
Saint Anselm will play again on Tuesday on the road against Amherst. The puck will drop at 7:00 pm.
