Eight Game Win Streak Snapped with 5-1 Loss at Amherst

Amherst, Mass. (January 19) --  After winning a season-high eight straight games, the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team went on the road and lost to fifth ranked Amherst 5-1 tonight. The loss is just the hawks fourth of the season, bringing their overall record to 12-4.

With 7:28 left in the first period, Randi Zukas (Glen Head, N.Y.) netted a goal to give Amherst the 1-0 lead before the first intermission. After just 5:30 had gone by in the second period, Josie Fisher (Norwich, V.T.) gave Amherst a 2-0 lead. Aly Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored the Hawks lone goal just after the midway point of the frame. Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) and Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) assisted on the goal for Saint Anselm. Amherst took the 2-1 lead into the locker room for the second intermission.

CC Wyshnytzky (Hawthorn Woods, IL) gave Amherst a 3-1 lead with 15:25 to play in the game. Megan Curry (Shorewood, MN) increased the Amherst lead seven minutes later to 4-1, and with 4:41 left in the contest, Curry scored her second goal of the game, giving Amherst the 5-1 win.

The win increases Amherst's record to 8-4-2. Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 37 saves in her third loss of the season.

The Hawks will be in action once again on the road on Saturday to take on UMass.-Boston. Saint Anselm will then be at home for its next six games between the days of Saturday, January 28 and Saturday, February 12.
