Four Players Score in 8-0 Hawk Victory Over Huskies

Portland Maine (January 14) --  Securing their 11th win of the season, the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team defeated the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine by a final score of 8-0, earning their first shut out of the season. The win improves the Hawks record to 11-3 overall and 5-3 in the ECAC East.

Four players on the women's team collected two goals each for the Hawks.

Michele Lacombe (Delafield, Wisc.) opened the scoring on a power play for the Hawks after just 2:48 had elapsed in the game. Kristen Byrne (Duxbury, Mass.) and Angela Zevnik (Greenfield, Wisc.) collected assists on the goal. With the Hawks took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) scored on assists by Byrne and Sami Tatu (Waterford, Mich.) after just three minutes had been played. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) scored with 15 minutes left in the period on passes from Byrne and Ellins. Ellins then collected her second goal of the game with 12 minutes remaining. Courtney Winters (Swampscott, Mass.) scored her first goal of the contest after 14:18 had elapsed to cap the scoring in the second period, and the Hawks took a 5-0 lead into the second intermission.

Lacombe scored on a power play which carried over from the second period for her second goal of the game. Freshman Andi Foss (Elko, Minn.) collected an assist on the goal. The goal came just 34 seconds into the final period. Winters collected her second goal of the game with 12:19 remaining in the game on a pass from Jamie Lynn Comrie (Ashburn, Va.). Giarrusso scored her final of the game with 29 seconds remaining to close out the scoring for the game .

Amy Zappen (Huntington, Beach Calif.) made 22 saves in the contest, giving the Hawks their first shutout of the season.

The Hawks will take the ice again tomorrow night against Plymouth State University. The puck will drop for the game at 7:00 pm.
