Manchester, N.H. (January 11) -- Saint Anselm closed the game on a 14-4 run as the Hawks defeated visiting Pace by an 86-70 final on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Hawks improved to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the Northeast-10 with the victory, while Pace drops to 7-8 overall and 3-7 in the league.
Saint Anselm jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the opening minutes before the Setters answered to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:37 left in the first half. A 16-4 run over the next six minutes, capped by a three-pointer from Dino Mallios (Winthrop, Mass.), put the Hawks in control with a 27-15 lead. The Setters briefly got the lead back under double figures before the Hawks went into the half up 42-31.
Pace got its offense going in the second half and close to five a number of times, including getting to within 71-66 with 4:16 remaining after a free throw from Delroy Daley. It was all Saint Anselm from that point on though as the Hawks held the Setters to just four points over the rest of regulation. Saint Anselm senior Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), who finished with a game-high 21 points, moved into seventh place on the Saint Anselm all-time scoring list early in the second half. Baudinet knocked down a turnaround baseline jumper to pass Joe Ingegneri '00 and now has 1,666 career points.
Freshman Dominic Borelli (Westbrook, Maine) posted a career-high 17 points, along with six rebounds and four blocks in 23 minutes. Freshman Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.) finished with 14 points, along with 13 points from junior Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.).
Keon Williams led three Setters in double figures with a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, January 15th as the Hawks travel to Saint Rose for a 3:30 p.m. start in Albany.
