Manchester, N.H. (September 22) -- Despite a
career-high 23-save effort by sophomore goalkeeper Megan Sullivan
(Braintree, Mass.), the Saint Anselm field hockey team
dropped a 2-1 final to visiting Merrimack on Wednesday afternoon in
non-conference action.
Merrimack took an early 1-0 lead at the 16:55 mark on a goal
from Sarah Salatto (Guilford, Conn.) and extended
the lead to 2-0 as Jamie Spano (Reading, Mass.)
put home a rebound at 27:12.
Saint Anselm struck just 36 seconds into the second half though
as Sara
Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.) scored on a penalty stroke
to make it a 2-1 game. Saint Anselm had a number of chances in the
second half and were helped by 11 second-half saves from
Sullivan.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 0-4 overall, while
Merrimack improves to 3-4 on the season. Saint Anselm returns to
action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Stonehill for a Noon
start at W.B. Mason Stadium.
