Hawks Fall Short in 2-1 Home Loss to Merrimack

Manchester, N.H. (September 22) -- Despite a career-high 23-save effort by sophomore goalkeeper Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.), the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 2-1 final to visiting Merrimack on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Merrimack took an early 1-0 lead at the 16:55 mark on a goal from Sarah Salatto (Guilford, Conn.) and extended the lead to 2-0 as Jamie Spano (Reading, Mass.) put home a rebound at 27:12.

Saint Anselm struck just 36 seconds into the second half though as Sara Sterling (Mansfield, Mass.) scored on a penalty stroke to make it a 2-1 game. Saint Anselm had a number of chances in the second half and were helped by 11 second-half saves from Sullivan.

With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 0-4 overall, while Merrimack improves to 3-4 on the season. Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Stonehill for a Noon start at W.B. Mason Stadium.
