Griffin, Hawks Drop 3-1 Final to Visiting Panthers

Manchester, N.H. (September 19) -- Senior Sara Griffin (Derry, N.H.) scored her first goal of the season late in the second half to get the Hawks on the board, but the Saint Anselm field hockey team fell by a 3-1 final to visiting Adelphi University on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

Adelphi took a 1-0 lead just 5:11 into the game on a goal from Brittany Kinsley (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), off a pass from Julianne Gerbino (Port Jefferson, N.Y.). Sophomore Cassie Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) added a goal in the 24th minute off a pass from Kinsley before Crystal Gray (Smithtown, N.Y.) capped off the Panther scoring at 48:02 for the 3-0 lead.

The Hawks had some chances late in the second half, after calling a timeout. That offensive push paid off at the 66:58 mark as Griffin took a pass from Maura Hurley (Holden, Mass.) and hammered home her first goal of the season to account for the 3-1 final.

Sophomore Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) made six saves in the defeat, while Lucia Vigliotti (Westbury, N.Y.) made five stops for the victory.

With the loss, Saint Anselm drops to 0-3 overall, while Adelphi improves to 3-3 on the season. Saint Anselm returns to action on Wednesday, September 22nd as the Hawks host Merrimack in a 4 p.m. start.
