Manchester, N.H. (September 19) -- Senior
Sara Griffin (Derry, N.H.) scored her first goal
of the season late in the second half to get the Hawks on the
board, but the Saint Anselm field hockey team fell by a 3-1 final
to visiting Adelphi University on Sunday afternoon in
non-conference action.
Adelphi took a 1-0 lead just 5:11 into the game on a goal from
Brittany Kinsley (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), off a pass
from Julianne Gerbino (Port Jefferson, N.Y.).
Sophomore Cassie Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) added a
goal in the 24th minute off a pass from Kinsley before
Crystal Gray (Smithtown, N.Y.) capped off the
Panther scoring at 48:02 for the 3-0 lead.
The Hawks had some chances late in the second half, after
calling a timeout. That offensive push paid off at the 66:58 mark
as Griffin took a pass from Maura Hurley (Holden,
Mass.) and hammered home her first goal of the season to
account for the 3-1 final.
Sophomore Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.)
made six saves in the defeat, while Lucia Vigliotti
(Westbury, N.Y.) made five stops for the victory.
With the loss, Saint Anselm drops to 0-3 overall, while Adelphi
improves to 3-3 on the season. Saint Anselm returns to action on
Wednesday, September 22nd as the Hawks host Merrimack in a 4 p.m.
