Middlebury, Vt. – On the second day of
the Duke Nelson Invitational Golf Tournament, the Saint Anselm
Hawks golf team shot a combined second round 308 and combined
two-day score of 613. The mark slated the Hawks in second place
after the tournament had finished. Tyler Fay (Barrington,
R.I.) and Brian Foley
(Worcester, Mass.) each shot a second round 76 to lead the
Hawks in day two.
The winners of the tournament were RPI, while Peter
Taylor (East Greenwich, R.I.) of Wesleyan University shot
an impressive second round 70 and a combined two-day score of 146
for the individual win.
For the Hawks, Fay's tournament score of 151 placed him in
11th overall to lead Saint Anselm. Nick
Maccario's (Bradford, Mass.) 153 also put him inside the
top 20, as he finished 16th overall. Freshman
Joe Fitzsimmons (Marshfield, Mass) also shot a
second day 78 for a 157 combined score, tying him with Foley for
39th overall. Senior Mike Mottola (Methuen,
Mass.) shot a second round 79 for a combined 155 that
placed him tied for 30th.
Out of the 25 teams that competed this weekend, Saint Anselm had
the only team with all players inside the top 40 individual
scores.
The Hawks will next play in the Saint Anselm Fall Classic on
Sunday, September 26th. The tournament will be held at
The Oaks in Rochester, New Hampshire. The competition tees off at
11:00 am.
