MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Robert Kelly (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) went 4-for-6 with a double, two triples, a run and six RBI in game two of today's doubleheader against the Assumption College Greyhounds to lead the Hawks to a 13-6 victory and finish his rookie season with a 13-game hitting streak.  The Hawks' offense struggled in the first game, however, as they fell, 4-0.  The split leaves the Hawks with a 13-31 (9-17 NE-10) record, while the Greyhounds finish 24-24 (10-16 NE-10).

Game 1: Assumption 4, Saint Anselm 0

Robert Kelly got his first of six hits today in the top of the first with a two-out single to right.  Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody, Mass.) got to second safely due to an error by third baseman Nick Napoli, but Daniel DeCoste (Chelmsford, Mass.) flew out to right to end the inning, stranding two.

Derek Migrants led off the bottom of the first with a walk and stole second.  Blake Youngblood got on base after being hit by a pitch, but starting pitcher Timothy Cooney (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) then struck out Wally Derosier and got Mike Foley to fly out to center for the first two outs.  Tim Scafidi hit an RBI single to right, scoring Migrants, but was then thrown out by Sucharewicz at second, trying to advance on the throw to the plate.

The Hawks stranded a leadoff single by Steven Panza (Watertown, Mass.) in the top of the second and the Greyhounds got right back to their offense with a leadoff single by Shane Keddy.  He advanced to second on a botched pickoff attempt by Cooney, and was driven home on a single by Nick Napoli.

In the top of the third, the Hawks stranded James Garrigan (Plymouth, Mass.) on third, who hit a one-out triple to center, and the Greyhounds inflicted more damage in the bottom of the fourth.  After Cooney got the first two outs of the inning, Napoli and Matthew Jose hit back-to-back singles and were both driven in by a two-out, two-RBI double to left by Migrants for a 4-0 lead at the end of the fourth.

Robert Kelly singled with two outs in the top of the fifth but he was the final base runner for the Hawks in the game, as senior pitcher Michael Colebrook retired the next 13 runners in a row to earn his first complete-game shutout of the season in his final career game as a Greyhound.

Steven Panza and Robert Kelly both went 2-for-4 in the game and Nick Napoli went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Michael Colbrook threw 114 pitches in the complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and no walks while striking out five.  Timothy Cooney surrendered four runs, three earned, on nine hits in seven innings, and Eric Simm (Salem, N.H.) pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth.

Game 2: Saint Anselm 13, Assumption 6

The Hawks' ended their cold streak quickly in the first inning of game two, as James Garrigan got on base with a one-out walk.  He stole second and advanced to third on an overthrow by catcher Joe Lopes, and Robert Kelly drove him in with an RBI ground out to shortstop.

Hawk starter Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) allowed just a walk to the Greyhounds in each of the first two innings, and in the top of the third, the Hawks got down to business.  Joshua Lafond (Goffstown, N.H.) started it off with a one-out single to third base.  Richie Manzi (Plymouth, N.H.) and James Garrigan loaded the bases with two more singles, and Robert Kelly hit a base-clearing triple to deep left field but was thrown out at the plate trying to make in an inside-the-park grand slam.

After a quick bottom of the third, the Hawks got right back to it in the top of the fourth.  Rett Ostafin (Avon, Conn.) opened the offense with a one-out single, Steven Panza got hit by a pitch, and David Giarrusso (Cranston, R.I.) loaded the bases with a single to left.  Lafond grounded into a force play at second, but then advanced to second base on an overthrow by shortstop Shane Keddy, which allowed both Ostafin and Panza to score.  Richie Manzi kept the rally going, getting on due to an error by third baseman Dan BradleyJames Garrigan walked to load the bases, and Robert Kelly continued to swing a hot bat, smacking a two-RBI double to right to make it 8-0 Hawks.

Eric Simm singled and scored in the top of the fifth inning, before the Hawks stranded the bases loaded with a line out and a strike out by the top of the order.

The Greyhounds finally got something going in the bottom of the fifth, as Matthew Jose led off with a single to left.  Derek Migrants followed with a single to center, and Blake Youngblood made it first and third with a force play at second.  Derosier popped out to the first baseman in foul territory, but Mike Foley walked to load the bases.  Stone hit Scafidi with a pitch to bring home Jose and Shane Keddy hit an RBI single to center.  Youngblood scored on the play, but Foley then got thrown out at the plate on a relay from Garrigan to Panza, ending the inning with a score of 9-3.

The Hawks put up four more in the top of the sixth, as Kelly and Sucharewicz led off with back-to-back singles.  Simm walked to load the bases, and Ostafin reached first safely on an error by Bradley, allowing Kelly to score.  Pinch hitter Matt Greeke (S. Hamilton, Mass.) drove in Sucharewicz with a single to left, and Giarrusso picked up an RBI ground out to third.  Lafond scored Ostafin, getting on by Keddy's error at short, before Dan Evangelista got two straight outs to end the inning, the score now 13-3.

The Greyhounds got one back in the bottom of the sixth, as Eddie McDonald doubled and scored on an RBI single by Migrants.  They went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, but they threatened in the eighth inning, loading the bases with three leadoff singles.  However, Jose popped out to first for the first out of the inning, and Migrants then grounded into an inning-ending double play to significantly hurt their chances at a comeback.

The Hawks left Kelly on third in the top of the ninth after he hit his second triple of the game, and the Greyhounds headed into the bottom of the ninth with their work cut out for them.  Blake Youngblood got them started with a double to left field and got to third on a wild pitch.  Pinch hitters Andrew Quinn and Michael Colebrook walked to load the bases, and Drew Dombkowski grounded into a force play at first, scoring Youngblood.  Keddy drove in Quinn with a sacrifice fly to right, and McDonald was then hit by a pitch.  Bradley loaded the bases with a single to center and Dave McLean sent Dombkowski home with a single to the pitcher before Mike Fantini (Haverhill, Mass.) got Frank Flynn to fly out for the final out of the season.  The Greyhounds scored three runs in the inning for a final score of 13-6.

Robert Kelly was 90 feet shy of hitting for the cycle, going 4-for-6 with a double, two triples, a run, and six RBI to finish his rookie season with a batting average of .383 and a .571 slugging percentage.  Matt Greeke went 2-for-2 with an RBI after entering the game in the sixth inning, and Joshua Lafond went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Matt Stone picked up his first win of the season in his final career appearance with Saint Anselm, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings.  Kyle Lavin (Shelton, Conn.) threw two shutout innings, allowing three hits, and Fantini gave up the final three Greyhound runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the ninth.

Dustin Wirzburger finishes his season without a win, allowing eight runs, four earned, on six hits in 3.2 innings.  Evangelista gave up one run off four hits in the next 1.1 innings, and Matt Metcalf surrendered the final four runs, three earned, on four hits in two full frames.  Tim Dupuis ceded just one hit in 1.2 innings, and Shane Keddy struck out the final batter of the season.
