Clermont, Fla. -- Saint Anselm closed out the
NTC Spring Games with a trio of wins on the final day of play at in
Clermont, Florida. The Hawks opened the day with a 5-0 win over
Cedarville, followed by an 8-7 and 17-8 sweep of NCAA Regional
participant Dominican College. Saint Anselm ends the trip at 7-3
overall, the program's best showing in Florida in recent memory.
The day before, the Hawks defeated Concordia (N.Y.) by an 11-10
final before downing Concordia (Mich.) 6-3 in game two of the day.
Those games were delayed two hours due to inclement weather.
In the win over Concordia (N.Y.), freshman Kylene Pease
(Ashland, Mass.) helped capped off a furious Saint Anselm
rally with a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for
the one-run victory. Pease ended the game 2-for-5 with three runs
scored and two runs batted in. The Hawks went down 4-0 early before
Liz Trafton (Berwick, Maine) cut into the deficit
with a two-run homer in the second inning. Moira McCabe (Brookline,
N.H.) tied the game at 6-6 in the fourth inning with a three-run
homer, as she finished 3-for-5 with four RBI. Raylyn Glavin
(Saugus, Mass.) finished 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park
home run, two sacrifice bunts and two runs batted in. Freshman
Shannon Dalton (Concord, Mass.) went the distance,
scattering 13 hits over nine innings with four strikeouts and one
walk.
In the 6-3 victory over Concordia (Mich.), senior pitcher
Lisa Caruso (Granby, Conn.) threw seven innings
for the win, allowing six hits with three earned runs and eight
strikeouts. The Hawks again trailed early as Concordia struck for
two runs in the first and one in the third for an early 3-0 edge.
Saint Anselm cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third before a four-run
fifth made the difference. In the third, Megan Walsh
(Randolph, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch for the first run
and freshman Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass.)
tripled in to score McCabe.
In the fifth, RBI's by Lizzy LeBrun (Rowley,
Mass.) and Glavin, along with a two-RBI single by Pease,
gave the Hawks the eventual victory. The Hawks picked up nine hits
overall in the victory.
Details on the Saint Anselm wins over Cedarville and Dominican
will be available online on Saturday after the team's return from
Florida.
Saint Anselm is back in action on March 20th as the Hawks travel
to New York for a doubleheader vs. Molloy. That doubleheader
will start at 1 p.m. and will take place at Queens College.
